This property had a lot going on - sloped ground, unmanaged beds, no real usable space outside the back door. Those are exactly the kinds of problems that get worse over time if you ignore them. Erosion chips away at the soil, water finds paths it shouldn't, and the yard just never becomes the space the homeowner actually wants.
We tackled it from multiple angles on this one. Out back, we built a curved block retaining wall to hold the slope in check and create a defined, level area right outside the back door. That kind of wall isn't just about looks - it's doing real structural work, keeping soil and gravel in place and giving the yard some usable, flat ground. We paired it with a concrete patio that ties directly into the back entry, finished with an exposed aggregate surface that holds up well and gives it a clean, textured look.
Around the front and sides of the home, we installed fresh landscaping beds with curved concrete edging, fresh mulch, and rock - the kind of low-maintenance setup that keeps things looking sharp without demanding a lot of upkeep. The beds are defined, the plantings have room to grow, and everything drains the way it should. We also poured a concrete sidewalk leading up to the front entry, keeping it consistent with the rest of the work.
What we love about jobs like this is that every piece serves a purpose. The retaining wall manages the slope. The patio gives the homeowner a place to actually be outside. The edging and rock keep the beds tidy and reduce weeding. It all works together - and it's all built to hold up for years without falling apart or shifting.
When a yard has multiple problem areas, it pays to address them all at once with a unified plan. Patchwork fixes tend to create new headaches down the road. Getting the grading, drainage, hardscaping, and landscaping right the first time means the property stays looking good and functioning well - season after season.
